The summer has arrived!  The invites for garden parties are coming in thick and fast so whether you are hosting, or simply bringing a dish to the BBQ, we’re here to help you out with a healthy fruit salad recipe using a raspberry vinegar with hints of thyme.  We also look at the age old question - how do you keep fruit salad from turning brown?

How do you make fruit salad with our raspberry vinegar?

No party is complete without a delicious fruit salad. Using our raspberry and thyme vinegar, here is an easy to make fresh fruit salad recipe to use as a zesty side, or as a desert depending on your guests. We guarantee this dish will disappear long before the guests do!

The wonderful thing about a homemade fruit salad recipe is that quite often you can substitute fruits for others. Here we recommend a whole bunch of easy to get fruits but feel free to swap out for others.

Ingredients

  • 10 ml  fresh OJ
  • 10 ml fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 oranges
  • 100g grapes
  • 100g  blueberries
  • Orange zest
  • Lemon zest
  • 100gpineapple
  • 100gstrawberries
  • 2 kiwis
  • 2 bananas
  • Scottish Bee Company Raspberry and Thyme Vinegar

Fruit Salad Recipe:

  1. Pour the OJ, brown sugar, orange and lemon zest to a boil in a pan over medium heat. Once bubbling, lower the heat and keep it low until the mixture is thicker. After about 6 minutes, remove from the heat, and allow to cool.
  2. Peel and core all the fruits and shop into small chunks. Mix together, being careful not to squash or crush any fruits.
  3. Pour the cooled sauce over the chopped fruit and pop in the fridge and mix well. Once left in the fridge for 4-5 hours, take the Scottish Bee Company’s Raspberry and Thyme vinegar and drizzle on top.
  4. Ready to serve.

Other fruits that are great to add to fresh fruit salads include apples, watermelons, lemons, melon and raspberries but feel free to use whatever you can get your hands on. Now tuck in with your loved ones!

So, how do you stop fruit salad from turning brown?

Cutting fruit exposes it to the air, causing enzymes to ripen the fruit and turn it brown.  There are many possible ways to address this, including coating the fruit with orange juice as described above.  But our preference is to coat the fruit with a diluted lemon and honey solution!
